Carmacks Pool Reopens After Six-Year Closure
After nearly six years without a local pool, the Village of Carmacks is proud to announce the official reopening of our community swimming pool! The pool, which closed in 2019 due to major structural and mechanical issues, has now been fully repaired and reopened to the public as of July 21, 2025.
Thanks to funding support from the Canada Community Building Fund and the Yukon Government's Community Development Fund, along with a joint operational agreement between the Village of Carmacks and Little Salmon/Carmacks First Nation, the revitalized facility is now ready to serve residents once again.
Mayor Justin Lachance emphasized that the reopening is about more than just recreation:
“Being surrounded by water in Carmacks, learning water safety, learning how to swim is so important. It was hard for the kids.”
The pool now offers swimming lessons, aquafit, recreational swim time, and more, five days a week. It provides a safe and inclusive space for youth, families, and Elders to stay active and connect with each other — right here at home.
Chief Russell Blackjack noted that access to the pool will also support efforts to promote healthy lifestyles and community well-being.
