Partnerships and Policy to Support Municipal Housing

As part of its HAF Action Plan, the Village has committed to creating a policy and partnership framework to enable it to take on an expanded role as a housing provider in the community while respecting capacity constraints. Currently the Village owns one duplex used for staff housing; this initiative positions the Village to build and administer more units in the future. This initiative directly links to the Staff Housing Project.

To date, the following tasks have been completed:

o    Fall 2024 – Bylaw review completed to identify regulatory barriers to new housing. See report here.

o    Fall 2025 – Memorandums of Understanding drafted with Yukon Housing Corporation and Carmacks Development Corporation to explore potential funding and/or operational partnerships (under negotiation – not publicly available)

o    Fall 2025 – Draft policy framework for the Village to manage and administer rental housing completed. See document here.
