Municipal Act
The Municipal Act was introduced in 1998 after Yukon-wide consultation.
It governs the way local governments operate in the territory. It was revised in 2003, 2008 and 2015.
Bill #89 - Act to Amend the Municipal Act passed during the 33rd Yukon Legislative Assembly. These changes came after a three-year review, conducted from 2012-2014 by a committee made up of members from the Government of Yukon and the Association of Yukon Communities.
The committee consulted with municipalities, communities, the general public, and conducted research and analysis. The Municipal Act is the foundation for strong, local governance and these changes will help clarify aspects of how these governments work.
